A significant escalation in the Middle East conflict occurred yesterday as Iran fired missiles at Israel, prompting a swift response from Israel’s defense systems and US military assistance.

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan confirmed American Naval destroyers joined Israel in intercepting the inbound missiles. Israel’s Iron Dome defense system successfully shot down most of the missiles, with some hits reported and damage assessment ongoing.

Eyewitness Accounts

Retired trauma surgeon Bill Schecter, in Jerusalem, described hearing multiple booms, likely from the Iron Dome interceptions. “We heard multiple booms… I suspect it was the Iron Dome shooting down missiles.”

Iran’s Motivations

Iran framed the attack as retaliation for Israel’s assassination of senior Iranian military figures. Iranian state television claimed victory, but evidence suggests minimal impact.

Separate Attack in Tel Aviv

Six people were killed in a separate attack by two gunmen in Tel Aviv before the Iranian missiles were fired.

Regional Tensions

The incident heightens tensions between Iran and Israel, with Iran supporting proxy groups like Hezbollah and Hamas. The US has imposed sanctions and increased military presence in the region, citing concerns about potential broader conflict.
