King Charles III has expressed his newfound admiration for Nigerian Pidgin English, crediting Afrobeats star Davido for sparking his interest in the language.

“Davido has made me love Pidgin language. I would like to speak it when next I visit Nigeria. Thanks to Afrobeats, it’s becoming more popular around the world,” the British monarch reportedly said.

The King’s recent playlist, curated for The King’s Music Room on Apple Music, features Davido’s song Kante, further highlighting his appreciation for Afrobeats and Nigerian culture.

This is not the first time King Charles has engaged with Pidgin English. During a 2018 visit to Nigeria, he greeted an audience with “How you dey?” and expressed his delight with “We de try.” His growing interest in the language underscores the expanding global influence of Afrobeats and Nigerian culture.

The King’s playlist also includes tracks from Beyoncé, Bob Marley, and Miriam Makeba, showcasing his diverse musical tastes. His embrace of Afrobeats and Pidgin English reflects the deepening cultural exchange between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
