The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has urged compensation for the 76 children charged with terrorism and treason after participating in the EndBadGovernance protest last August.

In a statement by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda and three other caucus members, the group praised President Bola Tinubu for ordering the children’s release. However, the opposition lawmakers also called for an investigation into the charges brought against the minors and for accountability for those responsible.

“Following the immediate release of about 76 young children charged with terrorism, treason, and arson by the Nigerian Police Force for participating in the #EndBadGovernance protest, the Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives commends President Bola Tinubu for responding to the demands of Nigerians and the international community.

“We appreciate President Tinubu for his swift directive, given just days after the children’s arraignment, which led to the Attorney-General of the Federation moving to take control and dismiss the case entirely.

“While we applaud the President for this timely intervention, the Caucus strongly calls for a thorough investigation, prosecution, and disciplinary action against those involved in this despicable, inhumane act that has brought national disgrace and global condemnation,” the statement concluded.
