Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, the nation’s longest-living president, passed away on December 29, 2024, at the age of 100. He died peacefully at his home in Plains, Georgia, where he had been in hospice care since February 2023.

Carter served as the 39th president from 1977 to 1981 and became widely celebrated for his post-presidential humanitarian efforts. He founded the Carter Center, an organization dedicated to promoting human rights and alleviating global suffering, and was a passionate supporter of Habitat for Humanity.

In 2002, Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in advancing peace, human rights, and social justice worldwide. His legacy as a global statesman and advocate for democracy and development remains unparalleled.

A state funeral is planned in Washington, D.C., followed by a private burial in his hometown of Plains.
