Residents of Kogi Central Senatorial District have reportedly begun collecting signatures to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. The process, which started across the district’s five local government areas, has seen constituents gathering at various collection points in Ajaokuta, Adavi, Okene, Lokoja, and Okehi LGAs.

At Ihima in Okehi LGA, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s hometown, residents were seen queuing to participate. One participant, Abdullahi Usman, stated, “We have lost confidence in her representation, especially after the recent scandal in the Senate.”

Similarly, Hajia Rabi Mohammed at Ajaokuta’s collection center said, “We want her to return home so we can elect someone with a good reputation.” According to Samuel Adamu from Lokoja, the recall process is expected to conclude by Friday, March 21, with signatures gathered from polling units across the district.

However, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Abdulrahman Badamasiuyi, dismissed the recall effort as baseless, calling it a sham. He urged constituents to ignore the exercise, stating, “We stand firmly with Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against her illegal suspension.”

Badamasiuyi emphasized that Akpoti-Uduaghan retains the people’s mandate until May 2027, rejecting any attempt to remove her from office.
