In response to the tragic collapse of a two-storey building in Maryland, Lagos State, which resulted in the loss of five construction workers’ lives, LASBCA has implemented new measures to prevent such incidents.

General Manager Gbolahan Oki has announced the following directives:

– No sleeping at construction sites: Laborers are prohibited from sleeping at construction sites, especially after work hours and at night. Night inspections will be conducted to ensure compliance.

– Specific construction hours: Construction work is only allowed between 7 am and 7 pm, Monday to Saturday, excluding Sundays.

– Professional engagement: Property owners and developers must engage qualified structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers and architects for their projects. Non-compliance will result in site sealing and possible removal.

These measures aim to ensure building safety, security, and habitability in Lagos State.

Additionally, LASBCA will conduct material testing on the collapsed building to determine the cause of the incident.
