Nigeria’s hopes for the 2026 FIFA World Cup took a hit after the Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw by Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on March 25, 2025.

Victor Osimhen put Nigeria ahead in the 74th minute with a well-placed header, giving the home crowd hope for a crucial victory. However, Zimbabwe responded with a late equalizer, denying the Super Eagles all three points.

The draw leaves Nigeria in fourth place in Group C, complicating their qualification path. This result follows their 2-0 win over Rwanda on March 21, where Osimhen scored both goals, giving the team a promising start under interim coach Éric Sékou Chelle.

With tough fixtures ahead, the Super Eagles will need to secure wins in their remaining matches while hoping for favorable results elsewhere to keep their World Cup dream alive.
