The Defence Headquarters announced significant breakthroughs in the fight against terrorism in the South-East region.

During a biweekly press briefing, Major General Edward Buba revealed the arrest of high-profile leaders affiliated with the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

Pius Iguh, alleged founding father of IPOB/ESN, was apprehended in Orsu, Imo State. Emmanuel Onwugu, IPOB commander, was arrested in Mbano Local Government Area, Abia State. Additionally, Ifeanyi Rock, a notorious cult leader, was taken into custody along with 10 commanders in Arochukwu Local Government Area, Abia State.

These arrests resulted from collaborative efforts between security forces and Operation Udoka troops. The Nigerian military’s targeted operations aim to disrupt IPOB and ESN’s operational capabilities in the region.

The Defence Headquarters’ announcement underscores the ongoing commitment to maintaining national security and addressing terrorism concerns in the South-East.
