Veteran actor Olaiya Igwe has opened up about his biggest regret, revealing that disappointing gospel singer Tope Alabi on her wedding day still weighs heavily on his conscience.

Speaking in a recent interview with Baba Ibe TV, Igwe recounted how the incident occurred years ago after the success of his film Ololade Mr Money. Having just purchased a luxury car, he initially agreed to lend it to Tope Alabi and her husband, Soji, for their wedding.

However, he later went back on his word, fearing for the car’s safety after experiencing a robbery. Reflecting on the decision, Igwe admitted that it caused Tope Alabi great disappointment, and despite seeking her forgiveness, he still feels guilty.

“What hurt me most and is still hurting me is what I did to my younger sister, Tope Alabi,” he shared. “She informed me about her wedding, and I had just bought a ‘V Boot’ car. At the time, my movie Ololade Mr Money was a hit, and I had already inscribed the title on the car.”

Igwe recalled traveling to Ibadan to screen one of his films, during which the car was stolen by robbers. Although it was later recovered, the experience left him shaken.

“When I returned, Tope Alabi came to my house in Abeokuta and asked to use the car for her wedding. I agreed, but later had second thoughts. I worried that armed robbers might attack them, so I stopped picking her calls a day before the wedding and didn’t give her the car,” he admitted.

Looking back, Igwe expressed deep regret over his actions. “Tope Alabi now has countless luxury cars, some of which I cannot even afford. But up till today, I still feel pain for disappointing her. I once sought her forgiveness during a professional meeting in Ogun State, but my greatest regret remains letting her down.”
