President Tinubu Dissolves Nnamdi Azikiwe University Council, Removes Vice-Chancellor and Registrar

President Bola Tinubu has dissolved the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, and removed its newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bernard Odoh, along with the Registrar, Mrs. Rosemary Nwokike.

He also approved the dismissal of Ohieku Salami as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.

The announcement was made on Wednesday through a statement by the Presidentā€™s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga. The statement, titled ā€œPresident Tinubu Sacks Nnamdi Azikiwe University Council, VC, and Registrar,ā€ detailed the changes.

The Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, chaired by Greg Ozumba Mbadiwe, included members Hafiz Oladejo, Augustine Onyedebelu, Amioleran Osahon, and Gen. Funsho Oyeneyin (retd.).

According to Onanuga, the dismissal of the council and officials was prompted by reports that the council had unlawfully appointed an unqualified Vice-Chancellor, disregarding due process.

“The controversial appointment led to tensions between the university’s Senate and its Governing Council. The Federal Government intervened, citing concerns over the councilā€™s apparent violation of the institutionā€™s governing laws during the selection process,” the statement read.
