Stan Alieke, the lawyer representing Speed Darlington, has provided an update on the ongoing legal case involving his client. In a detailed Instagram post, Alieke addressed criticism regarding his handling of the case, emphasizing his commitment to safeguarding his clients’ interests and his proactive approach to legal counsel.

Alieke explained that his legal team carefully monitors the social media content of clients, including Speed Darlington (also known as Akpi), advising them to remove any potentially problematic posts. He stressed the importance of preventing legal issues rather than waiting for disputes to arise.

The lawyer also clarified that delays in Speed Darlington’s arraignment were due to inefficiencies within the court system, such as judges’ conferences and the upcoming holiday court recess. He confirmed that the case has now been formally charged to the Federal High Court, Abuja (Court 13), and is currently under judicial consideration, meaning only the court can determine the outcome.

Alieke pointed out that under Nigerian law, defamation is no longer a criminal offense and must be addressed through civil actions, questioning the involvement of law enforcement in the case. He also emphasized that Speed Darlington is entitled to bail, as provided by Nigerian law.

Alieke’s statement concluded with an invitation for those seeking updates to visit the Federal High Court’s registry, where the case is now a matter of public record.
