Under Alonso’s leadership, Bayer 04 has experienced an unprecedented era, securing the Bundesliga title, the DFB-Pokal, and the German Supercup, marking the most successful period in the club’s history.

Alonso, who took charge in October 2022, transformed the team into a dominant force in German football. His tactical brilliance and leadership guided Bayer 04 to their first-ever Bundesliga title, achieved in an unbeaten campaign, a feat never before seen in German football. His tenure also saw the club reach the Europa League final, further solidifying Bayer 04’s reputation on the international stage

Reflecting on his time at the club, Alonso expressed gratitude to the players, staff, and fans:

“I am deeply thankful to Bayer 04 Leverkusen, my players, the staff, and the incredible supporters. Our success was the result of an outstanding team effort. This club deserved to win the Bundesliga, and I will always cherish the memories we created together.”

Bayer 04’s management acknowledges Alonso’s immense contributions and assures fans that the club remains committed to continued success. Simon Rolfes, Bayer 04’s sporting director, stated:

“This era has been a milestone in the development of Bayer 04. Together with Xabi, we built a team that impressed the football world. We are proud of our progress and wish Xabi all the best in his future endeavors.”
