The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, has begun the 21-day traditional rites known as “Oro Ipebi,” a mandatory seclusion period before his official coronation.

The rites, which started on Friday, March 7, 2025, will run until Saturday, March 29, 2025. In line with tradition, a nightly curfew has been imposed across Oyo township from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily. Residents have been warned to stay indoors, as anyone found outside during these hours will be arrested and detained until 7 a.m. the next day.

Oba Owoade’s coronation is set to take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025, in Oyo town.
