Former President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that he sustains himself through income earned from renting out one of his two houses in Kaduna State. He urged leaders to uphold transparency and accountability as guiding principles while in office.
Speaking in Hausa during an All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus meeting at the Presidential Banquet Hall, Katsina State, on Saturday, Buhari emphasized that he did not corruptly enrich himself during his presidency. He described Nigeria as a challenging country to govern due to its complexities.
The former president, who appeared in high spirits, noted that most Nigerians are unaware of the administrative difficulties of governing the country and tend to blame leaders during and after their tenures.
Buhari disclosed that he owns only three housesâone in Daura, Katsina State, and two in Kaduna Stateâadding that nobody could accuse him of illicit enrichment during his time in office.
âI look much better and healthier now than when I was president. Anybody who sees me now acknowledges this,â Buhari said. âAfter eight years as a civilian president, I have only three houses. One in Daura and two in Kaduna. I have given one out for rent, which provides money for my feeding.â
